Welcome to Karajarri Country
Join us on a journey through Karajarri Country and Culture where the turquoise waters meet towering limestone rocks and caves. This insightful journey takes you from the Dreamtime through to colonisation and the present day. By sharing these experiences with visitors to the region, the Karajarri people keep their culture and language alive.
Hear our stories, see our Country, taste our tucker
This two and half hour walking tour takes you along a remote stretch of coastline characterised by unique limestone rock formations. Stopping at culturally significant locations along the way, hear the traditional songs that tell the story of each place. Take part in a cultural smoking ceremony and visit the ochre cave and hear the story of the colours that define Karajarri ceremonies and culture. Close your eyes and connect with Country through the Dreamtime Creation Story.
Three generations of the Shoveller family bring a unique perspective to this cultural experience. Karajarri elders share their knowledge of country while a new generation perform traditional ceremonies and dances. At the end of the tour experience a tasting of traditional foods, prepared by members of Francis’ family, slow cooked in the earth, the way our people have prepared food for millennia.
